Revamped Birth site knocks off ninemsn’s parenting play
Latest Nielsen traffic data has revealed an interesting shift in the competitive landscape for Australian parenting sites.
www.birth.com.au, acquired in February this year by Australia’s number 1 parenting site Kidspot, has overtaken ninemsn’s www.motherandbaby.com.au in monthly visitor numbers.
www.motherandbaby.com.au the online version of ACP’s bi-monthly magazine, slipped into 7th place as traffic to the recently revamped Birth site increased by 64% month on month for April.
Birth was started in 1999 by midwife Catherine Price and childbirth educator Sandra Robinson. The site contains a wealth of information for women who are trying to conceive, are pregnant or have recently given birth, with approximately 2,000 expertly written articles online. Prior to Kidspot’s involvement, traffic to the site had reached a peak of just under 100,000 unique browsers per month.
After conducting research with existing and potential users, Kidspot embarked on an aggressive redesign of the website but retained all of the expert content. The investment has paid off tremendously with the site attracting 164,000 unique browsers* following April’s relaunch.
Katie May, CEO of parent company Kidspot said:
“We have been in awe of the expert content available on www.birth.com.au for the last 4 years. To be in the position of now publishing and marketing it to women is such a thrill for Kidspot. The dramatic growth in traffic to Birth in April is testament to the amazing content written by Catherine Price & Sandra Robinson and a significant number of new users embracing the new Birth site we launched during the month. We are very pleased with the immediate traction the new website is enjoying.”
